Almost 24 months after the go-live of the shared Electronic Medical Record (EMR), the Parkville Precinct Health Services continue to prioritise Digital Health and Transformation.
This year, the precinct engaged the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) to validate their digital maturity after the implementation of their shared Parkville EMR.
The Parkville Precinct health services completed both their Inpatient and Outpatient Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) assessments – an 8-stage model aimed to measure clinical outcomes, patient engagement and clinician use of EMR technology.
All four hospital received a stage 6 validation for both their inpatient and outpatient EMRAM, with RCH also receiving a stage 7 for its outpatient EMRAM.

Laura Pumo is the Support Services Application Manager at the Parkville EMR team. She is a HIM by background who has been working in the digital health space for most of her career.
Sofie Karamzalis is the Director Informatics – Leading the local EMR team and Business Intelligence & Analytics Team. Sofie is a Health Information Manager by trade and has worked in Health for 25+ years. For approximately 15 years she has worked in Digital Health. She has been involved in 2 major EMR implementations, one being at Austin Health and the other being in her role as Director EMR at The Women’s as part of the joint Connecting Care Parkville EMR Program whereby the Epic EMR was implemented during the height of the pandemic in August 2020. Sofie is a key advocate for supporting HIM student placements and offers her time to provide mentorship support to these students who have gone on to secure professional roles. She is passionate about making a difference to staff & patients and the community through technology as an enabler as well as Data Analytics to support improved health outcomes and research initiatives.

Health information is pivotal at the point-of-care for clinical management and service provision for our consumers, as well as for service monitoring, planning and management.
This Health Information Governance Framework has been developed to articulate the management of health information across NorthWestern Mental Health (NWMH)*. This framework acts as a footprint for the governance of health information across the organisational structures, partnerships, service settings and differing levels of health service digitisation.
With advancements in digital health across Victoria and Australia, appropriate governance of the collection, use and access of patient and consumer health information is more pertinent than ever to meet the growing demands for service delivery and service monitoring in a complex environment.
This is especially important for NWMH as services move to implement significant changes introduced for the mental health space in the very near future.
*NWMH is a public mental health service for people living in northern and western metropolitan Melbourne. Services are delivered through six programs spanning 32 sites across the northern and western suburbs of Melbourne in partnership with Melbourne Health, Northern Health, and Western Health
Janine commenced her working life with large teaching hospitals before moving into the world of mental health service delivery. Her current role with NorthWestern Mental Health involves the translation of strategic direction into operational practice in the area of health information management and service delivery. She has a particular interest in quality improvement and governance, leadership and change management.
Passionate about working in mental health, Janine is keen to apply further learnings from the Masters of Public Health and Master of Health Administration she is currently studying to the world of health information management within mental health. Working in a dynamic and multi-disciplinary mental health environment, she excited about the transformation of mental health services currently underway.
