About the role
A vacancy exists for a highly motivated and qualified Senior Clinical Coder to work at Coding Team Leader/Coding Manager level. With appropriate knowledge and skills you would be joining a friendly and supportive team. This position and the Coding Unit are part of our wider services framework striving to provide quality inpatient coded data to supports the goals of the organisation. The position provides senior administrative support to the Manager HIS & ICT for the functions of the Coding Unit, assists team members to work together and effectively to generate consistent and accurate coded data, as well as processes a routine coding workload within the position itself routinely allowing technical skills to be maintained.
Management of coding throughput to meet monthly reporting deadlines and assisting with the interpretation of PICQ Performance Indicators for Coding Quality audit reports, as well as coded reports generation from various systems used form part of this very interesting role. The Coding Team Leader ensures that team members have access to current and appropriate resources, and encourages participation in wider education activities as these become available.
The Coding Team Leader works with the coding team to ensure understanding and accurate implementation of the Australian Coding Standards and changes as they occur, encourages and enables discussion of difficult cases as these arise within the team, and works to ensure that the monthly coding deadlines can be routinely met. The position supports management, research and audit activities, includes some routine reporting requirements, assists clinicians to better understand coding requirements, raises concerns about clinical documentation where these arise in an effort to code cases more accurately, responds to NSW Cancer Registry inpatient notification queries, and assists with HAC coding reviews.
This role works closely with the Manager HIS & ICT on a professional level.
What you bring
Current and substantial ICD10AM coding qualification and experience
Experience working in a tertiary referral hospital or acute public health setting
A desire to continually strive for quality improvement in all facets of work
Excellent communication and computer skills including for coding specific systems
