About the role

The Coding Manager/HIM Business Analyst position is a senior role within Health Information Services/IT and the hospital, and is responsible for ensuring high quality inpatient coded data is available to meet internal and external reporting needs, for coding education and auditing, reports generation, leading and mentoring the coding team, and assisting the clinical information department to maintain services at a senior level when required.  The role primarily involves managing and assisting the small coding team of four on as daily basis to interpret requirements using coding standards, supporting and developing coding team cohesiveness regards coding practices, developing local guidelines in consultation with manager and clinicians to improve the quality of coded data, assisting coders with the coding of difficult cases, coding throughput management, influencing clinical documentation where possible to improve the quality of coded data and documentation, coded data error checks and associated auditing.  The role is directly and professionally supported by the Manager Health Information Services and Information Technology, reports any areas of concern to the manager and discusses ideas, is involved in HIM professional matters, advises progress of work areas on a regular basis, and assists in the review and development of related department and hospital policies and procedures as appropriate to the role.

What you bring

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (HIM) or direct equivalent and eligibility for full graduate membership of the HIMAA
  • ICD10-AM Clinical Classification qualifications and practical coding experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Advanced Medical Terminology skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clinicians
