Clinical Documentation Improvement Officer (FT)

The Roles
We are currently inviting applications for two full time opportunities as either:

  • Lead Specialist, Clinical Documentation Improvement & Health Information Strategy, or a
  • Clinical Documentation Improvement Officer

Key Responsibilities

Role 1: The Lead Specialist, Clinical Documentation Improvement & Health Information Strategy role is responsible for the driving the Clinical Documentation Integrity Program across Cabrini Health to ensure complete and accurate clinical information is captured and key stakeholders are educated to embed changes into daily practice. You will use your extensive knowledge to actively query, engage and support Visiting Medical Practitioners and other clinicians to obtain best practice - enhancing patient safety & quality, accurate clinical coding, DRG allocation and fee reimbursement. You will be inquisitive and look for opportunities to improve all forms of clinical, health & patient information, including administrative and certification forms across various clinical & non-clinical settings, to develop an organisation-wide informed strategy.

Role 2: Reporting to the Lead Specialist, Clinical Documentation Improvement & Health Information Strategy, the Clinical Documentation Improvement Officer role is responsible for actively supporting the Clinical Documentation Integrity Program across Cabrini Health by utilising your extensive clinical knowledge, engagement and education skills to promote and embed documentation improvement. Utilising your energy, passion and commitment you will positively engage with all clinicians, providing expert support and promotion of best practice tips and techniques that are tailored to assist people working in busy environments.

Both positions have a strong relationship focus with the Cabrini Health community - this includes other clinical & funding compliance/assurance activities, and support opportunities that reflect Cabrini's strategic objectives and partnership external funding agencies.

Key Requirements

Role 1: Lead Specialist, Clinical Documentation Improvement & Health Information Strategy:

  • Appropriate qualifications commensurate with the position - tertiary qualification in Health Information Management (or Nursing with experience in complex care needs, casemix management, episodic funding or documentation improvement or similar)
  • Recent private health sector experience, knowledge of current funding payment models and contractual arrangements in a medium to large organisation
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology/pathology of disease processes
  • Highly developed understanding of Microsoft Office products - Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent critical thinking/analytical skills with high level of attention to detail
  • Highly desirable - Certification in DRG Assurance training or auditing, or ability to acquire
  • Commitment to the Cabrini Mission, Values and Vision

Role 2: Clinical Documentation Improvement Officer (FT)

  • Bachelor of Nursing with current AHPRA registration
  • 5+ years recent experience in one or more of the following areas - complex care needs, casemix management, episodic funding or documentation improvement or similar)
  • Recent private health sector experience, knowledge of current funding payment models and contractual arrangements in a medium to large organisation
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology/pathology of disease processes
  • Highly developed understanding of Microsoft Office products - Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of/or ability to acquire knowledge of clinical coding documentation requirements
