Using real case studies, in this webinar they consider clinical documentation practices that may be denied by insurance providers in the private setting or in public health be picked up in the internal/external audit cycles as not supporting clinical code assignment; which in both cases can result in payment denial, and missed or inaccurate funding outcomes.

Electronic Health Records (EHRs) are the key digital health technology in the increasingly diversifying modes of health care delivery. Accurate, accessible, consistent and contemporaneous health record information is central to the success of telehealth, Zoom consults in primary and tertiary health care. Vicki is the Head of the Metadata and Classifications Unit at the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, where she has held a number of different roles over the past 14 years. Vicki has a degree in Health Information Management, and a Masters in Health Informatics and has had a diverse career both domestically and internationally. She is on the Board of the Health Information Management Association of Australia and is the President Elect for the International Federation of Health Information Management Associations.

HIMS have been leaders in the adoption of activity-based funding and their contributions include appropriate classification systems, coding quality and timeliness, design of new classifications, research on case-mix classifications, data collection, clinical costing systems, data management and standards. Operationally, coding and other health record data drives diagnosis-related groups and we have forged significant advances here.

Almost 24 months after the go-live of the shared Electronic Medical Record (EMR), the Parkville Precinct Health Services continue to prioritise Digital Health and Transformation.
This year, the precinct engaged the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) to validate their digital maturity after the implementation of their shared Parkville EMR.
The Parkville Precinct health services completed both their Inpatient and Outpatient Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) assessments – an 8-stage model aimed to measure clinical outcomes, patient engagement and clinician use of EMR technology.
All four hospital received a stage 6 validation for both their inpatient and outpatient EMRAM, with RCH also receiving a stage 7 for its outpatient EMRAM.

Sofie is a Health Information Manager by trade and has worked in Health for 25+ years. For approximately 15 years she has worked in Digital Health. She has been involved in 2 major EMR implementations, one being at Austin Health and the other being in her role as Director EMR at The Women’s as part of the joint Connecting Care Parkville EMR Program whereby the Epic EMR was implemented during the height of the pandemic in August 2020. Sofie is a key advocate for supporting HIM student placements and offers her time to provide mentorship support to these students who have gone on to secure professional roles. Matthew Thatcher is Parkville EMR Director, leading the Parkville EMR team providing day to day support and maintenance of the Parkville EMR service.
